Syllabus and course details

The programme runs over two years and encompasses credits, including a master thesis.

The introductory block of courses in the first semester contains a mix of well-needed courses in statistics, machine learning and programming for the continuation of the programme. The courses Statistical Methods, Machine learning, Computational Statistics, Advanced Data Mining, Deep Learning, Big Data Analytics, and Bayesian learning constitute the core of statistics and machine learning at the programme.

In addition, during the third semester, master’s students have the freedom to choose among several profile courses - aimed to strengthen students’ statistical and analytical competence - and complementary courses - that allow students to focus on applied areas or relevant courses from other disciplines. Opportunities for exchange studies are also provided during the third semester of the programme.

To be awarded the master’s degree, students must pass 90 ECTS credits of courses and successfully defend a master’s thesis of 30 ECTS credits.

Master´s Programme in International and European Relations, credits

Introduction

The Master’s Programme in International and European Relations is a second cycle, two-year, full-time study programme that leads to a master’s degree with a major in Political Science, specialization International and European relations.

The programme prepares students for work in advanced capacities in a dynamic, International labour market, as well as further studies, including doctoral education and research. Thus, the objective is that students on completion of the programme will have developed an independent and critical approach to International and European relations, and the skills and knowledge that will enable them to actively contribute to developments in this field, either as practitioners or researchers.


The students will:

  • develop the capacity to understand the history, theory and contemporary implications of International and European relations,
  • attain the analytical tools to examine contemporary International and European relations,
  • acquire an in-depth understanding of International governance,
  • develop the capacity to conduct independent analyses of issues

    What study options are available?

    Linköping University (LiU) offers 30 international programmes, in various subject areas. Most of our master's programmes are two years long and count for credits (ECTS). We currently offer one international bachelor programme taught in English. We also offer single-subject master's and bachelor level courses, exchange studies and even doctoral studies in English as well. For students who wish to learn to be able to study at university in Swedish, there is a Swedish qualifying course available.

    • Check you meet the general requirements for master's studies at LiU.
    • Check you meet the programme specific requirements - find these on each programme's web page. There is a box showing the next academic year at the start of the page, select the drop down function "Admission requirements" to view the details.

    You will need to prove your qualifications with official documents.

    Note: The academic year in Sweden is based on two semesters: autumn and spring. Master’s programmes at LiU start in August for the autumn semester. There are no degree programmes that begin in the spring semester at LiU.
